| Why Apple Servers?
There is a reason Apple computers cost more... they're better! Apple provides TACWeb with a more reliable and easier to manage solution for hosting its client's websites. Most hosting companies choose to run PC computers because they are cheaper and can be rack mounted to take up less space. At TACWeb, reliability and performance is our first concern. We know that Apple computers are more reliable because we are Apple experts and have been using Apple computers for over a decade, and we prefer the full-sized tower server design over rack mounted computers (we own our building, and space is not a problem for us). In addition, Apple computers are less susceptible to computer viruses and "hacking". As you are probably aware, 99% of all computer viruses are made to effect PC computers running the Window's system or Microsoft software. Since 1996 we have seen many failed attempts to infect or "hack" our system. Because we use Apple computers, we are immune to most viruses and hacking attempts. Internet Connection TACWeb is connected with a full T-1 connection (1,536 kbps) directly to Cogent, one of the worlds largest ISPs. The high speed connection directly links our local area network to Cogent's powerful optical network via a dedicated, point-to-point circuit. TAC's partnership with a premium provider like Cogent (rather than a local provider) has benefited TACWeb and its customers with a very dependable service for over a decade. Cogent's end-to-end optical network consists of multiple metropolitan IP-over-WDM fiber rings located in Cogent's major markets throughout the United States and Europe. Cogent currently has a presence in over 95 markets throughout North America and Europe. Cogent's network provides each building or data center with up to 5 Gbit/s of dedicated bandwidth. Layer 3 edge routers in each building are connected to Cisco Layer 3 Terabit core routers over two diverse optical paths. These core routers are tied together via an international backbone network consisting of multiple 10 Gbit/s DWDM optical links. With a currently implemented capacity of 80 Gbit/s in the United States and 40 Gbit/s in Europe, Cogent's international IP network is the largest in the world and is scalable to a total capacity of over one Terabit.
